Who will I be speaking to?
All our volunteers are students who have been trained in active listening.
What can I expect if I contact you?
Nightline offers a safe and calm space to discuss anything you’d like, whether it’s a particular problem or you just want someone to chat to. We won’t tell you what to do, and you can take as long as you’d like. Even if you can’t find the words, we’ll stay with you and will be there to talk whenever you are ready.
Why don’t you give advice?
We are not trained to give advice, as we feel that we do not know what the best option for you is. Our volunteers will let you direct the conversation in any way you want, as we do not want to interfere.
What supplies do you give out?
We give out free condoms, non-latex condoms, lube, pregnancy tests, tampons, sanitary towels, ear plugs and attack alarms, as well as bus timetables, and other info leaflets. If you’d like to get any of these, feel free to come to our building (between New and Old Rootes) and ring the doorbell. You do not have to come inside, our volunteers can give you these supplies at the door if you’d prefer. We also have an information stand in our hallway, so you can take away any leaflets you like without having to ring the doorbell or let anyone know.
What can I talk to you about?
Nightline is here to listen to anything that is on your mind. No problem is too big or too small and you can take all the time you need.
Can I talk to a volunteer about suicide?
Yes, you can discuss anything that’s on your mind with our volunteers. We will not interfere or tell you what to do. We can call emergency services for a caller, but only if they request for us to do so.
